Frank D. McLaren, 75, passed away after his battle with leukemia on May 28, 2013 at his home in Monroe, WA. Frank lived a very full life with many adventures, experiences, passions but most of all a love and curiosity for life.
Frank was born in Linclon, Nebraska, the second of 4 children and only son of Beryl and Mildred McLaren. He found his way to the Northwest when his father moved here during WW II to repair war tanks and equipment. It was in Sedro-Wolley, WA that Frank met his wife of 53 years and it was here that they raised their 3 children.
He spent his years of employment in telephony, retiring as a Software Coordinator at the age 52, but then going back to work after a few years with a long distance carrier and we thank him every time we have to dial the 3 digit area code in the Northwest when calling a local number.
Frank's passions in life were HAM radio (much to his kid's horror!); computers, where he was often referred to as the 'super geek' ; science fiction; camping, cooking (we'll miss that bread!); and golf with family and friends where he considered himself comic relief for everyone while playing.
During his last few months it was his sense of humor that helped Frank and everyone that knew him manage the difficult process of saying good bye. He went out as he always did, telling a joke and making it easy on others and those he loved.
Frank was a helper kind of person and helping others is what he did best. He was instrumental in forming the Sky Valley chapter of Habitat for Humanity as a board member, and also a dedicated 12-year volunteer to Sky Valley Food Bank. As such, Frank asked that there be no service and any memorial be sent instead to Sky Valley Food Bank at www.svfb.org/donate or Providence Regional CAncer Center at www.cancerpartnership.org.
Frank is survived by his immediate family, Barbara, three chidren and their families: Michelle, Joey and Callyn Dwiggings; Dan McLaren; Shari and Matt Cassidy. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Evergreen Hospice Care for their support.
