A graduate of Monroe High School in 1968. Jim went on to become a fabricator, welder, hobby farmer, long haul truck driver, and dairy farmer. After farming in Washington for ten years, Jim and his family moved to Wisconsin, taking the farm with them. The family returned home to Washington nearly eight years later where Jim managed another dairy farm and drove truck locally until he retired.
Jim truly loved three things... God, family, and country life. He loved to take the scenic route and view the countryside. His time as a truck driver made him a walking GPS. Jim knew every distance, route, and arrival time for any road trip. If one needed to know how far, how fast, and how to get there, all you had to do was ask Jim. He knew every mile marker and could pinpoint someone’s location by rough directions.
Jim and Kathy loved to travel each year to Montana and the Midwest. They created many cherished memories visiting their children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. They loved to watch the kids’ school concerts and sporting events and without fail made it to each one they could.
He loved to collect signs and antique thermometers. He would ask family members to keep their eyes open for them to be added to his collection.
Jim loved to visit the elderly in his community and for years they enjoyed coffee with Jim. He loved to get to know others and could chat with any stranger like they were old friends. He once even struck up a fun chat with a group of bikers at a gas station on one of his many road trips.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Kathy, children Jennifer Steiger (Peter), Deborah Funk (Donnie), John Vos and Laura Sytsma (Will), sister Jean Dykstra, 8 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother Peter Allen Vos and his parents Pete and Sue Vos.
A graveside service for Jim will be held Saturday, July 30, 2022 at 12:00 at IOOF Cemetery 21714 Old Owen Rd. Monroe, WA. Following the graveside service will be a memorial service at 1:00 PM at New Hope Fellowship/ CRC, 1012 W. Main St. Monroe, WA 98272.
