

Alfred Bailey Raine was born in Los Angeles, California on January 30, 1929. Al grew up in the Highland Park neighborhood of Los Angeles where he attended Franklin High school. When Al was a young man, he enjoyed the outdoors, and loved to ride his bike to the beach. In high school, he joined the gymnastics team and loved to go to muscle beach in Venice Ca. to practice his gymnastics. He was a very accomplished gymnast, and could do the iron cross on the rings, which requires extraordinary strength.
Al enlisted in the army towards the end of World War II. He was stationed in Tokyo. While serving, he was promoted to sergeant in a short amount of time.
After returning from his service in Japan, Al met the love of his life, Carol Joy. They met at Fosselman’s Malt Shop in South Pasadena. Their courtship was brief, and soon after meeting they eloped to Las Vegas.
Al & Carol started a family. They were gifted 3 children, Catherine, Debra and Cheryl.
In 1956, Al became a Los Angeles city fireman. He loved being a fireman. He always said it was the best job anyone could have. While on the fire department, he always had side jobs working for himself doing various construction jobs. In 1961, he built the family home in Arcadia. This experience served him well for his next endeavor after retiring from the LAFD in 1975.
Al started R&H Construction after retiring from the department, and soon had work all over the southland in both the residential and commercial markets. He also built his own rental properties, where much of his family lived over the years. Al retired from his construction business in 1990, but the man never really did stop working. His work ethic admirable, he provided well for his family.
After Al’s second retirement, Al and Carol started motor homing. They loved it. They meet many friends and traveled all over the U.S and Canada. They enjoyed their motor home, and their time together in it, for many years.
In 2001, the love of his life Carol passed away. They were married for 52 years. He was very devoted her.
Al married Linda Schuler in 2007. He was still married to her upon his passing.
Al passed away peacefully in his home in Arcadia, Ca that he built and loved on July 12, 2020.
Al is survived by his three daughters, six grandchildren; Heather, Natalie, Hillary, Sonia, Allan and Megan, nine great- grandchildren; Xavier, Darby, Lucian, Kody, Mia, Leilani, Leah, Sophia and Hunter. And finally, three Great- Great Grandchildren, Delana, Bella and Trinity.
Al will be missed by his loving family, friends and many people who knew and loved him.
