His older sister, Cynthia completed his family unit. At an early age, Emerson knew he wanted a career in medicine. He remained with this medical practice until his retirement in December 2023. Emerson was devoted to his family. He married wife Veretta 1983 and they parented two children, Monica and Adrian. He loved and cherished his extended family who shared connections to both Kentwood, LA and Hammond, LA. He had a special lifelong friendship with college roommate, Steven Royston. The two shared lively conversations about sports, politics, and African American history. His life was lived with strength of character and commitment to hard work.
