

Bro. Pat Edwin Minshew, age 94, of Montevallo, went to be with the Lord on December 12, 2015. In his younger years, he was a pitcher known for his left-handed knuckleball for Thompson High School and in the Minor League in Tallassee, Alabama. Following that, he went to work in the coal mines and served in the US Marine Corps during WWII at Marshall Island. He was called to serve the Lord and earned 2 Master’s degrees at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and Bob Jones University in Greenville, SC. He served as Pastor of Helena Baptist Church; Bethlehem East Baptist Church in Kent; Enon Baptist Church in Montevallo; as Associate Pastor of Jemison Baptist Church; and as Pastor of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Shelby until he retired in 1996. He was a member of the Alabama Baptist Association and of Grace Baptist Church in Montevallo. He loved the Lord, his family, gardening, ice cream and Alabama football. He was well-cared for the past eight years by his granddaughter and her husband, Kelli and Rory Strong, and their children. Bro. Pat was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Eberhart Minshew; grandson, David Michael Minshew II “Dave”; brothers, John Haywood Minshew (US Navy) and Billy Hugo Minshew (US Army); and sister, Nancy Caroline Minshew. He is survived by his sons, Daniel Stephen Minshew “Danny” (Janet) and David Michael Minshew; grandchildren, Mark Minshew (Nicole), Kelli Strong (Rory) and Jodi Northcutt (Kevin) and 9 great-grandchildren. His funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 15, 2015 at 2:00 PM at Rockco Funeral Home (Montevallo), with visitation to begin at 12:00 PM. Bro. Bill Traywick will officiate and burial will follow at Enon Cemetery.
