Delores Marie Alexander

Delores Marie Dunn Alexander, age 89, of Calera, Alabama passed away on Tuesday, September 7, 2021. Delores was born April 22, 1932 and raised by her mother, Theresa Fischer Nelson, stepfather, William Aaron Nelson, and grandparents, Sy Jones and Mary Langworthy. She married her sweetheart, Byron Alexander, on March 20, 1950 and dedicated her life to her husband and family. She raised her children according to Christian principles and was a teacher and principal at Calera Christian School. She also enjoyed camping, shopping, crafting, photography and being with family. She was always friendly, but only those closest to her knew the real Delores.

Delores was preceded in death by her husband and love of her life, Byron Alexander; son, Michael Alexander; brother, Leon Dunn; and sister, Harriett Manning. She is survived by her children, Dennis Alexander (Mickey), Kathy Wilson (Danny), Mary Cook (Charles), and Lynn Alexander; grandchildren, Chris Alexander (Dawn), Mark Alexander (Rhonda), Stephanie Headley, Karen Hilyer (Jason), Jennifer Sweeney (Shawn), Alan Wilson (Bonnie), Benjamin Crowson, Timothy Crowson, Stephen Crowson, Andrew Crowson, Laramie Crim (Marti), Jeremy Crim (Karmen), Stacey Hickox (Jacob), Joseph Crim (Keri), Julius "Doc" Smith (Ashtin); 32 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Jackie Ward (Earl); brother, Tommy Nelson (Gayle); brother-in-law, Bill Alexander (Virginia); and numerous nieces and nephews.

A visitation for Delores will be held Thursday, September 9, 2021 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Calera Bible Baptist Church, 2252 16Th St, Calera, Alabama. A funeral service will occur Friday, September 10, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Calera Bible Baptist Church, with Bro. Bill Alexander and Bro. Carey Waldrop will officiate. Burial will follow at Shelby Memory Gardens in Calera. The family strongly encourages social distancing and masks for the services. The family requests any memorial donations be directed to Calera Bible Baptist Church.
