Hubert Hilton Shirey, Sr., age 87, of Calera, AL, passed away September 21, 2014. He was a member of South Shelby Baptist Church. He loved his children, travelling and gardening. He was preceded in death by his parents, Merida & Myrtie Shirey; and sister, Fay Shirey Banks. He is survived by his wife or 67 years, Pauline “Polly” Trice Shirey; daughters, Deborah Jean Shirey of Calera and Janice Shirey Walton (Kerry) of Calera; sons, Hubert Hilton Shirey Jr. (Carol) of Calera; 7 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Austella Shirey Gaut (Jack) of Pelham; and brothers, Howard Ray Shirey (Roberta) of Morristown, TN and Jerry Shirey (Linda) of Mobile. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 23, 2014 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Rockco Funeral Home (Montevallo). Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, September 24, 2014 at Rockco Funeral Home with burial to follow at Shelby Memory Gardens. Bro. Jack Spinks will officiate. The family expresses appreciation for the doctors, staff and chaplain at Shelby Baptist Medical Center and New Beacon Hospice.
