

James "Harrison" Moore, age 83, a lifelong resident of Shelby County, Alabama passed away on Monday, October 23, 2023 on his 61st wedding anniversary. Harrison was a veteran of the US Army and retired from Alabaster Post Office as a Rural Carrier. He was a member of Oak Mountain Independent Church in Pelham where he enjoyed singing and playing the piano in praise and worship. Harrison was passionate about church missions, having participated in over 30 trips building churches and schools around the world. In addition to watching the kingdom of God grow, he also loved to watch his vegetable garden grow.
Harrison was preceded in death by his father, Robert A. Moore; mother, Frances Marie Moore; sister, Julia Mercer; brothers, John E. Moore and Michael "Mickey" Moore; brothers-in-law, Keith Miller and Early Mercer; and his canine companion, Buster. He is survived by his wife, Darthy Moore; son, James H. "Jamey" Moore (Bobbie); daughter, Courtney Pierce (Jeff); grandchildren, Molly Lawson (Hunter), Michael Goodwin, Jaydyn Pierce Butterworth (Jaxon) and Lacey Lawyer (Luke); great-granddaughters, Greenleigh Moore, Layla Lawyer, Laynee Lawyer and Layna Lawyer; great-grandson, Logan Lawyer; sister, Bobbie Moore Miller; brother, Robert A. Moore (Linda); sisters-in-law, Maxine Moore and Linda Moore; and many nieces and nephews
The funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 26, 2023 at 12:30 PM at Rockco Funeral Home (Montevallo), with visitation to begin at 10:30 AM. A committal service will follow at Alabama National Cemetery at 2:00 PM.
