Janie is described as a straight forward, strong willed woman. Well into her final days, she never gave up on the things she loved. She loved to travel to Gatlinburg, Tennessee or take a cruise. She also loved to garden, paint, crochet and work on her puzzles. Janie devoted most of her life to her husband of 44 years and two children. She was not only a loving wife and mother she also a started the Nuclear Medicine Department at Shelby Baptist Medical Center, where she worked for 33 years.
Janie will Join in Heaven her loving husband, Charles Randall Johnston; parents, George and Lauren Hinds; brother, Billy Hinds; and sisters, Louise Bartlet, Patricia Parish, and Pamela Rowland.
Left behind to cherish her memory are her son, Shawn Johnston (Anita); daughter, Ginger Johnston Roe (M. Neal Roe); grandchildren, Chase E. Johnston, Brennan K. Johnston, and Elysse V Roe; sister, Sue Hinds Acton (Ronnie), as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
Janie Johnston was a well accomplished and well-loved woman. She was a lifetime member of Helena United Methodist Church and also regularly attended Cross Bridge Baptist Church in Helena, Alabama and has made many friends throughout her many years. She will be terribly missed by all those who knew her.
A Visitation will be held on Saturday August 4, 2018 at Rockco Funeral Home (Montevallo) at 2:00 PM followed by a Funeral Service at 3:00 PM. Burial will follow at Helena City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Helena Miracle League at P.O Box 17, Helena, Alabama 35080 in memory of Janie E. Johnston.
