Ronald "Ron" Langston, SMSGT USAF Retired, age 84, of Panama City, Florida, passed away on March 4, 2020. He was preceded in death by his son, Daniel Langston; granddaughter, Jennifer Langston; mother Lillian and step-father, Harbert Brown; father, Acie Sr. and step-mother, Mable Langston; brothers, Chris and Lee Langston. He is survived by his son Peter (Cathy) Langston; daughter-in-law, Teresa Langston; 3 grandsons, Jon, Adam (Lawson), and Christopher; sister, Reba Miles; 3 nieces, Ashley, Kandi (Jay) and Hannah; cousins, Ann (Curtis) Ferguson, Mot (Woody) Woodward and Sarah Ashworth.
During his Air Force career, Ron served in Germany, England, Vietnam, the Arctic Circle and different bases in the States, During his service in Vietnam, Ron was awarded a Bronze Star. He was humbled and proud of the award.
Ron was born and raised in Alabama, but called Florida home. After he retired from the USAF in January 1980. He began a career with Textron Marine & Land Systems in New Orleans, Louisiana. He was an electrical test engineer on the Navy's hovercraft, landing craft, air cushion and was the on-board navigator for all tests and trials. Before retiring from Textron in 1996, he served in the same capacities for the Coast Guard Rescue Vessel (rollover boat) and in the Fireboat Project for the City of New York.
Ron was a mason in Callaway Lodge 369; Scottish Rite of Panama City; and Shaddai Shrine in Panama City in the Shrine Hot Rod Unit. After retiring from Textron, he volunteered through the Springfield Literacy Center teaching adults to read. He also volunteered in the Catholic Charities Food Bank on 11th Street.
A graveside service will be held at Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo on Friday, March 13, 2020 at 11:00 AM, with a Celebration of Life to follow at Rockco Funeral Home (Montevallo). He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.
