Selvis Holcombe Wallace

Selvis Bernice Holcombe Wallace was born July 9, 1933 in Coleanor, AL to Glenn S. Holcombe and Jewel E. Smitherman Holcombe. She entered into rest on December 30, 2019, surrounded by her family. Selvis is survived by her daughter, Dianne Wallace McDonald (Mike) of Orange Beach, AL. Sons, Timothy D. Wallace (Pam) of Brent, AL, Gregory D. Wallace (Anita) of Randolph, AL, and Bradley S. Wallace of Randolph, AL. Eight Grandchildren: Timberly Thompson Harris (Jack), Rhett Thompson, Melanie McDonald Selby (Jim), Courtney Thompson Ridgeway (Scott), Kelli Wallace Burt (John Davis), Gregory D. Wallace Jr (Emily), Madison Wallace Murphy (Matthew), Maci LeeAnn Wallace, and eleven Great Grandchildren. Brother, Billy G. Holcombe and sister, Betty Holcombe Veazey (Buddy) and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents Glenn and Jewel Holcombe, husband Raymond D. Wallace, sister Shelby H. Padgett (Ralph), brother JW Holcombe (Allie Ree), sister-in-law Jennie Holcombe, and son-in-law Randall E. Thompson.

Pallbearers are her grandsons Gregory Wallace, John Davis Burt, Rhett Thompson, Matthew Murphy, Jack Harris, and Scott Ridgeway.

Honorary Pallbearers are Sandy Jackson, Dell and Bette Knight, Ima Jean Bresse, Lindy Helton, Lauren Powell Thompson, Mike McDonald, Dr. Aye Unnoppet, and Brookwood Medical Center SICU.

Visitation for Selvis will be Saturday, January 4, 2020 from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm at Shady Grove Baptist Church, Highway 139, Randolph, AL 36792. Funeral Service will be Saturday, January 4, 2020 at 2:00 pm also at Shady Grove Baptist Church with burial following afterwards at Shady Grove Cemetery.

Selvis married Raymond D. Wallace on February 27, 1954 and together they raised four children. She was employed for 21 years at Health-Tex Garment Factory and then served for 24 years as an aide and bus driver for special needs children within the Bibb County School System. Selvis was exceptionally talented and began Nan’s Creative Crafts as an avenue to be able to share her love of crafting and painting with others. She had a lifelong passion for serving others; from being the oldest of her siblings and helping to care for them, to caring for her own children, including her special son, Brad, who she cared for daily for the past 50 years, as well as other members of her family and community. If there was ever a need, Selvis always ensured those needs were met to the best of her ability. Just as her love nourished the people around her, her tender, loving hands also nourished her many plants and flowers. She had a passion for gardening and happily became a member of the Chilton County Master Gardeners where she served for many years.

In addition to being a wonderful Mother to her four children, she was also a proud Grandmother and Great Grandmother to eight Grandchildren and eleven Great-Grandchildren whom she nurtured and loved every day of her life. Her love was open-armed, welcoming, and selfless. There is no other love compared to a mother’s love, with the exception of ‘Nan’s Love’. She found complete joy in loving her children, Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren.
