Barbara Rose David

Barbara Ann Rose McNair David passed away peacefully on Friday, May 15, 2026 at the age of 91, with family by her side. Barbara, eldest of six siblings, was born in 1934 in Troy, Alabama. She attended Troy High School and Auburn University, where she was a member of Kappa Delta sorority. She received her bachelor’s degree from Troy State Teacher’s College and later returned to Troy State University to serve as an administrator, earn a master’s degree in education counseling, and retire as University Registrar. Barbara was a member of Aldersgate Methodist Church in Montgomery.

Barbara brought home wherever she went. She and her late, beloved husband John Oseburn (Jack) David crisscrossed the continent. She made and treasured many memories with him, avidly watching birds, seeing the sights, visiting family, and enjoying the friends she and Jack held close in the area and on the road. She was adored for her beautiful, easy laugh. She loved to dance. Most of all, she took constant delight in watching and keeping up with her large and ever-growing family. Barbara is survived by her children Wes McNair (Sheryl), Mark McNair (Rhonda), and Leigh M. Smeltzer (Kurt); and siblings M. Glen Rose II and Mary Lynn Rose. The arrival of her grandchildren was enough to make her renew her focus on health and she treasured her long-remaining time with them – John (Ady), Jay (Kirsten), Rachel, Morgan, Matt, and Chase, along with now five great-grandchildren. She is also survived by many dear cousins of various degrees.

Barbara was preceded in death by her husband Jack; her mother and father, Helen Henderson Rose (Wright) and Marshall Glen Rose; by her brothers Jere Henderson Rose, Edgar Bartley Rose, and John Wright Rose; and her treasured aunts Ree, Onie, and Twoie.

A visitation will be held Tuesday, May 26, 2026 at 10:00 am followed by an 11:00 am celebration of Barbara's life at Leak Memory Chapel, 945 Lincoln Road, Montgomery, AL. 36109.
