Bernice Delean Pitts

Bernice D. Pitts, 79, of Montgomery, AL passed away after a long illness on August 13, 2021. She was born on June 30, 1942 to Jessie & Napoleon Lockhart in Clanton, Alabama. Bernice married Gary E. Pitts, the love of her life on December 9, 1977 and they were inseparable for 44 years. Bernice was currently residing in Gainesville, FL. She had lived in Florida in her younger years and always had a dream of returning. Upon her husband's retirement, she finally got to return to the area she loved. She loved to garden and even had tropical trees and plants in her home when she resided in Montgomery. A homemaker who was a wonderful cook, she enjoyed cooking for family gatherings as well as canning to share. She also enjoyed antiquing. A loving wife and doting mother/grandmother she showered her family with love and encouragement.

Mrs. Pitts was preceded in death by her parents, Jessie & Napoleon Lockhart; her children, Melissa Goodwin Corwin and William Alonzo Goodwin; her sister, Marie (Lockhart) Nobles and grandchildren, Dana Delean Bone and Amanda Harper Ressler.

Bernice is survived by her husband, Gary E. Pitts; her son, Daniel Pitts of Gainesville, FL (formerly of Montgomery); and her daughter, Phyllis Goodwin Harper (Curtis); grandchildren, Bridget Bone Connell (Jody), Jennifer Harper Bowen (Brian), Curtis Blake Harper, Chastity Goodwin, Christopher Jones (Leah), Kristi Goodwin, Matthew Goodwin, Tiffany Goodwin, Victoria Goodwin Hall (Robbie), Christian Pitts, Ashton Pitts, Angelica Pitts; and numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

A visitation for Bernice will be held Friday, August 20, 2021 from 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM at Leak Memory Chapel, 945 Lincoln Rd, Montgomery, Alabama 36109, followed by a celebration of life chapel service at 2:00 PM. Services will conclude with a burial in Greenwood cemetery. Rev. Cliff Stever officiating. Pallbearers will include Christian Pitts, Paul Kadle, David Bone, William Bishop, Blake Harper and Alex Minor.
