Bessie Jean White

Jean White, age 94, of Montgomery, Alabama passed away on Saturday, July 26, 2025. She is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Patillo White and Margaret Matilda White; her brother, Ancil White; and her sisters, Lillian Ray, Annie Easterwood, and Lamittice Brown. She is also preceded in death by Ronnie Ray, Larry Brown and Libby Vickery. She is survived by her nieces and nephews and their children to the third generation. The surviving nieces and nephews are Floyd White, Jerry White, Brenda Gass, Renee Roberson, Linda Douglas, Roger Ray, Mike Easterwood and Steve Easterwood.

Jean was born and raised in Lineville, AL and moved to Montgomery with her mother upon her dad's death. She obtained a job with the Civil Service at Maxwell Air Force Base, where she worked until retirement. While working at Maxwell, Jean assisted airmen in their retirement. Having time on her hands, Jean then decided to work for the Montgomery Fire Department for ten years, where one of her main duties was ordering firetrucks and equipment. Her mother lived with Jean until she passed in 1973. Jean loved her family, and they loved her. She cherished her church, First Baptist of Montgomery, singing in the choir, worshipping, and working on projects for preemie babies and knitting for cancer patients. She enjoyed travel, exercise, and going out to eat with friends. She also enjoyed knitting, quilting, and painting. Jean had a special love for cats.

As Jean said more than once, " I'm ninety-four and have had a full life." Jean was an independent, caring, kind and fun-loving woman. She both believed and lived the Gospel message. Jean will be greatly missed by both family and friends.

A visitation for Bessie will be held Thursday, August 7, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at White Chapel-Greenwood Funeral Home, 909 Lincoln Road, Montgomery, AL 36109.
