Betty Lane Irvin, age 78, passed away at her home in Montgomery, surrounded by her family on Saturday, October 6, 2018. She was born on a farm in Crenshaw County, Alabama on December 16, 1939 to Manning and Maline (Reynolds) Powell. After high school, she located to Montgomery where she married Argus Bennett Irvin on March 25, 1966.
Betty was an amazing wife, mother, “Nana” and sister. Her love for her family was strong and unconditional. She will be remembered for her generous spirit and for the many thoughtful ways in which she made those she loved feel special. She was an extraordinary woman who was loved, is deeply missed, and will forever be cherished by all who knew her. Her heart belonged to her grandson with whom she shared a unique bond. Time spent at Nana’s house was very special for both of them, and parents were discouraged from hanging out too long.
She had a successful career as a cosmetologist for 40 years and was co-owner of the Fountain of Beauty for many of those years.
Betty is survived by her husband, Ben Irvin; daughter Paula (Mark) Cavanaugh; grandson Peyton Cavanaugh; three brothers Hugh Powell, Monroe Powell, and Bill (Janice) Powell; sister Merlene Hitson; sister-in-law Betty Rhodes; and many nieces and nephews.
Family, friends, and others whose lives Betty touched are invited to Leak Memory Chapel, 945 Lincoln Rd., Montgomery, AL on October 10, 2018. Visitation will begin at 12:30 p.m. with services held at 2 p.m. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. After, all are invited to Highland Avenue Baptist Church for food and fellowship. In lieu of flowers, Betty has requested donations be made to Highland Avenue Baptist Church.
