
Carl Leroy Whatley, passed away January 7, 2014, at the age of 82. Leroy was born January 19, 1931 and grew up in Tuskegee, AL and later moved to Montgomery, AL. Leroy served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict and was retired from the United States Postal Service with 41 years of service. He was an active member of Woodland United Methodist Church and served in many capacities there through the years. Most of all he loved his God, family, friends, Braves Baseball and gardening. He will leave a legacy of selfless service to others and his quiet presence of strength and comfort will be missed. His survivors include his daughter and son-in-law Susan W and Glenn Yost; his grandchildren Austin and Hannah Yost (all of Pike Road); his sister Ellen Whatley Sadler (Montgomery); his sisters-in-law Barbara (Tuskegee) and Lois F. Whatley (Tallassee), Mary and Beulah Willoughby (Meridian, MS); and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Lewis E. and Minnie Hughes Whatley; brothers L. Edgar., Charles C., and Douglas H. Whatley; brothers-in-law Wallace Sadler, James, W.J., Dudley and L. Austin Willoughby, Chester Gordon and Jim Etheridge; sisters-in-law Etna Etheridge, Edith Gordon, Mildred, and Lorraine Willoughby; nephews Charles and Jacob Sadler, Lance Whatley, Tommy Etheridge, Eugene Moore, and the love of his life for 43 years, his wife, Patsy Willoughby Whatley. We draw comfort knowing that they are finally together in heaven after 15 years. The family wishes to thank Drs. Harold Cox and Vernishia Hill Graham and their staff for their medical care over the years. Visitation will be Sunday, January 12 from 5:00 until 7:00 pm at Leak Memory Chapel. Memorial Services will be Monday, January 13 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel at Leak Memory with graveside services to follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Flowers will be accepted or donations can be made to Woodland United Methodist Church, (4428 Wallahatchie Road, Pike Road, AL 36064) in his honor.
