Claudie Belle Adams, 94, a long-time resident of Montgomery, passed peacefully to Heaven on January 10, 2017. She lived a wonderfully full life and was able to celebrate her 94th birthday in August with friends and family. Claudie was born in Esto, Florida in 1922. She graduated from Bethlehem High School with honors and moved to Columbus, Georgia to begin her adult life. While there, she ran into Huce Adams, whom she had known previously and they began to date. She remembers him coming to the mill where she worked and walking her home at the end of her shift. She said he was the nicest, most polite man she had ever known. On their first date, he asked her to marry him. They were married on July 14, 1941. Shortly thereafter, Huce joined the Army to fight in World War II.
In August of 1963, Claudie and Huce moved to Montgomery from Florida and she began working as a Nurses Aide at St. Margaret’s Hospital. In 1966, the family moved to Yarbrough Street in Highland Gardens. She continued to work at St. Margaret’s as she raised her family. She had two sons, Wayne and Royce and one daughter, Connie. Claudie and Huce remained in their home in Highland Gardens for 38 years and celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary in 1991 at Yarbrough Street Baptist Church. She then began a career as a Private Duty Nurses Aide where she was able to care for people in their homes. She said she gained great satisfaction from being able to give this type of personal care.
She was a great cook and loved making German Chocolate, Red Velvet and Pound Cakes. She lived in Capitol Heights Place for the past 10 years and counted many friends there. Capitol Hill Healthcare provided for her final care this past year. Claudie was preceded in death by almost all of her family and most of her friends. She was extremely proud of her marriage and family and held a steadfast trust in her Lord Jesus Christ up until the end. Claudie is survived by her son Royce Adams, her daughter, Connie Cooley (Bennie), and a number of other relatives.
There will be a graveside service at Montgomery Memorial Cemetery (3001 Simmons Drive) on Saturday, January 15, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. Flowers may be sent to: Leak Memory, 945 Lincoln Road, Montgomery, AL.
