Callan Jr.(Judy), and Candita (Candy) Woodruff; her10 grandchildren Kelly Pennington (Joey Spafford), Erin Wroten (Michael), John Leslie Mullins, Kelsey Callan, Meghan Callan (Kyle Ward), John Michael Callan, Ian Callan, Courtney Riley (Devin), Carlie Kervin , Connor Kervin; and her adored four great-grandchildren Callan Spafford, William and Ansley Wroten, and Ellis Irene Ward. She is also survived by one brother Albert Nick, and her sister (and best friend) Olga Deas, whom she lived with and cared for with the devotion and love only sisters can share.
Connie raised her children with faith in God and family. She was an active member of St. Andrews Catholic Church from the time she moved to Montgomery in 1958 until the church closed, and then became a member of St. Bede Catholic Church. She was a hands-on Grammy who shared her time and love with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whether she was teaching them to sew, decorating cookies or painting rocks. She loved the holidays—and decorating for the holidays—and believed that a good holiday meal was one where she would run out of seating (but never food!). There was no such thing as too many people at a gathering or a meal.
She loved yard work, her flowers—and a good sale! While shopping, if she found a bargain, then it was an even better bargain if she bought three (and that attitude was the same whether she was buying canned peaches or waffle irons…). She worked hard all her life, and remained active to the end. Connie’s idea of “down time” was raking her large back yard or rearranging her closets. She was a ball of energy and love, and no one will ever fill the hole she has left in our hearts and lives.
She was preceded in death by her husband Leslie J. Callan Sr.; parents Constanzio and Candida Nicometo; her brothers Charles, James, Dominic and Arthur Nicometo and Frank Nick; and her sisters Florence Rapone and Mary DeSimone (her former partners in crime at the casino).
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to COPE Pregnancy Center, 2158 Madison Ave., Montgomery AL 36107. "A Memorial Service will be scheduled at a later date."
