Deland Adna Vitty, 85, passed away on Friday, January 23, 2015. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, January 27, 2015 at 10:00AM at Greenwood Cemetery. Mr. Vitty was born in St. Johnsbury, VT and was a 1948 graduate of St. Johnsbury Academy and attended Norwich University in Northfield, VT. He was a member of the U.S. Air Force Band and retired at Shaw AFB in Sumter, SC in 1970 at the rank of Master Sergeant. Mr. Vitty was the founder of the St. James School Marching Band in Montgomery and established Vitty’s School of Music. He was a 32nd degree Mason, member of the Scottish Rite, and Past President of the Alcazar Shrine Temple Band in Montgomery. Mr. Vitty was preceded in death by his wife, Emma S. Vitty. He is survived by his daughters, Laura V. Weaver (David) of Perrysburg, OH and Jennie Vitty-Rogers (Matt) of Marietta, GA; and one brother, Roderic B. Vitty (Pat) of Quechee, VT; nieces, nephews, and special friend, Paula Gray of Hampton, NH. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Shriner’s Hospital or St. James School Band Fund in memory of Deland Vitty.
