Dwight James Melton Sr.

Dwight James Melton, Sr, born 8/12/1946, passed away June 11,2020 at Jackson Hospital. Even though he has battled multiple medical problems over the years, this was a sudden and unexpected episode. Dwight’s career choice in Insurance sales afforded him a management position for Banker’s Life Insurance and later ownership of his own independent agency. But, what he enjoyed was buying and selling automobiles with his life-long friend, Jack Daniels.

Dwight was preceded in death by his mother, Ruby Jones; father, Houston Melton; brother, Gerald Melton; sisters, Joyce Lemley and Barbara Melton and a nephew, Mark Jackson. Dwight will be remembered as a loving husband, father, step father and uncle. His most cherished title, however, was D-daddy! He is survived by his wife, Sherry Melton, sons, Dwight James (Jamie) Melton, Jr; Jason (Kathy) Melton; step son, Nick Letlow; step daughter, Nicole (Matt) Collier and two grandsons, Ethan Collier and Russell Collier; one sister, Christine (Clayton) Jackson and nephews, Jack Jackson, John Jackson and Alan Jackson, sister in law, Dianne (JDanny) Cooper; BIL, Randy (Trish) Carter and many nieces and nephews.

A visitation for Dwight will be Sunday, June 14, 2020 from 3:00 - 5:00 PM at Leak Memory. A graveside service will be Monday, June 15, 2020 at Greenwood Cemetery at 2:00 PM. Dr. Jay Cooper and Dr. Darryl Hamilton will officiate. Pallbearers will be Matt Collier, Reid Strickland, Hunter Brendle, Steve Bailey, Jim Tuley and Randy Carter

The family would like to thank the staff of Jackson Hospital ER and 3 Tower as well as Kindred Hospice for their kind, loving and compassionate care they have provided Dwight. Special and loving gratitude to Dr. Darryl Hamilton, Dr David Knapp and Dr Lisa Williams.
