

On August 24, 2021, our Heavenly Father called Edna Dobbs Gillenwater to her eternal reward. Edna was born on December 17, 1951 in Bessemer, Alabama. To continue her legacy, she leaves her husband, Eddie, daughter Amy Helms (Vince), sons William Gillenwater (Elizabeth), Daniel Gillenwater (Hanna), Billy Gay (Julie), 8 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren, sisters Judy Hyde, Laurel Ann Storey and Dottie Boartfield and brothers Mark Dobbs and David Dobbs, multiple nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Dorothy and Joe Dobbs, and her sister Mary Jo Brown.
Edna was a devoted and loving wife, mother, MawMaw, and great grandmother. She was an active member and teacher at The Church at Eastern Oaks. She had a passion for Jesus, her family and teaching the Bible to children, youth and ladies. She also wrote and directed Christian plays for both adults and children. She was a member of the praise team, as well as a special singer.
A visitation for Edna will be held Sunday, August 29, 2021 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Leak Memory Chapel, 945 Lincoln Rd, Montgomery, Alabama 36109, followed by a celebration of life service at 3:00 PM.
The service will be officiated by her son, Dr. Daniel Gillenwater, Senior Pastor at The Church at Eastern Oaks. Pallbearers will be Jared Helms, Josh Helms, Thomas Gay, Joseph Gay, Rusty Hyde and Chris Boartfield. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking donations be made to: The Edna Gillenwater Legacy Children's Ministry Fund. The donation may be mailed to The Church at Eastern Oaks 7505 Wares Ferry Rd., Montgomery, AL 36117.
