Elaine was born and raised in LaFayette, Alabama where she helped her parents and siblings run the family-owned, Jennings General Store. She later attended Massey-Draughon Business School to study bookkeeping. Shortly after, she met and married her husband of 67 years, John Paul Wilson. They have been devoted to one another their entire lives. She retired from Cloverdale School after serving over 20 years as librarian and bookkeeper in the Montgomery Public School system.
Those who were blessed to have known Elaine remember her as living by the “Mama Rule.” “If you have nothing kind to say, say nothing at all.” Elaine never uttered an unkind word about anyone or anything. She was truly exceptional and one of a kind. She lived a great life as an active, truly kind, loving Christian woman who had unfailing and unconditional love for her friends and family. She relished her roles as a daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, mother-in-law, great grandmother and friend. Until very recently, she and Granddaddy never missed a ballgame or sporting event for any of the children or grandchildren, often traveling to other states to attend. She was an avid reader, an amazing cook and gardener and loved to host family gatherings. She was never happier than when she was surrounded by her family and friends. She had a quick wit and vibrant sense of humor.
Elaine was also actively involved at Frazer Church in many bible studies and worship groups such as Joy Circle, The Encouragers, 36109 and The James Gang, to name a few. She made many life-long friends in those groups and was well-loved by those who knew her.
Elaine will be greatly missed. May we all follow your example of love and kindness. You are home again, home again
She is survived by her husband of 67 years, John Paul Wilson; children, John L. Wilson and Michael P. Wilson; brothers, Joe Jennings and Bill Jennings; sister, Martha McConnell; grandchildren, Samantha Wilson, Daniel Wilson, Emily Wilson and Ashley Kelly; as well as great-grandchildren, Gabriel Wilson, Caroline Wilson, Ethan Kelly and Brooks Wilson.
A Family and Friends visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 17, from 9AM to 10AM at Frazer Church with a Celebration of Life Service immediately following. A 2PM Graveside Committal Service will be held at Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Wounded Warriors Project.
