Hilda Pope Young

Hilda Pope Young, 95, formerly of Montgomery, AL, passed away on September 17, 2013 in Cookeville, TN. Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 22, 2013 from 2:00pm-3:00pm at White Chapel Greenwood Funeral Home, with funeral services beginning at 3:00pm. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Roger Colglazier, Mrs. Young’s son-in-law, will officiate the services. Mrs. Young was born March 16, 1918, in Abbeville, AL to the late Angus Dowling (A.D.) and Byrdie Hawkins Pope. She was a graduate of Auburn University and a member of the Chi Omega Sorority. She taught English three years in Barbour Co. and 27 years in Montgomery County and served as President of the Montgomery County Teacher’s Association. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Alpha Delta Kappa and the Capital City Women’s Republican Association. Mrs. Young was also a member and ladies bible class teacher at Vaughn Park Church of Christ and a member at Dalraida Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her husband of 30 years, David E. Young, Sr.; two brothers, Thomas C. Pope and William H. Pope. Mrs. Young is survived by a son, David E. Young, Jr. (Donna) of Sri Lanka; daughter, Brenda Colglazier (Roger) of Cookeville, TN; six grandchildren, Abigail Mittlesteadt (Wes), David Colglazier, Aaron Young, Shannon Ceballos, Brandon Lanier and Matt Lanier; three great-grandchildren; and brother, A.D. Pope, Jr. of Abbeville. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
