

Homer was a Christ-centered man who exemplified kindness, respect, and a love for family and friends. He had a passion for learning new things throughout his life.
Homer attended Sidney Lanier High School in Montgomery, Alabama, and furthered his education at the University of Arkansas. He had a successful career as Procurement Manager, dedicating 42 years of service to Koppers Company.
Homer resided at Kirkwood by the River in Birmingham, where he enjoyed many activities with his friends and the staff, including worship and singing in the Chapel. He was also a member of First Baptist Church in Montgomery.
Homer began his day with a daily devotion and Bible reading. His other daily interests included working on his Genealogy and discovering the world through his I-Pad. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, traveling, and reading. Upon retirement Homer joined the local branch of Alabama wood carvers, took music lessons and learned to play the Organ. He also enjoyed his volunteer work with the Adult Literacy Program through his church, as well as volunteering at Baptist Medical Center South.
Homer is survived by his son, Albert McGough, and wife Linda of Birmingham and his daughter-in-law, Sue McGough of Bowling Green, Kentucky. Homer was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 55 years, Margaret Ball McGough, as well as his eldest son, Elton McGough, Jr.
He also leaves behind seven grandchildren: Kelley McGough of Bowling Green, Kentucky, Marianne (Adam) Schondelmayer of Bowling Green, Kentucky, Dr. Abbey (Warren) Carroll of Shreveport, Louisiana, Alice (Matt) Alexander of Huntsville, Alabama, Adam (Anne) McGough of Hendersonville, Tennessee, Nelson (Macy) McGough of Columbus, Mississippi, and Sarah (Andrew) Bryant of Mountain Brook, Alabama.
Additionally, he is survived by eighteen great-grandchildren: William & Elayne Kaufman; Ian, Rhys & Neal Schondelmayer; Edward, Caelie & Erin McGough; Baxter, Boyd, Benson & Mae Carroll; Emma Kate, Mason & Landon Alexander; Rowdy McGough; Brooks & Tucker Bryant; as well as many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Homer was preceded in death by his parents, Mary J. Stegall McGough and Elton Guyron McGough, his sister, Margaret Jane McGough Peeler and Brother-in-law Jack Peeler. He was also preceded in death by his second wife, Helen Bagley McGough, with whom he shared ten years of marriage.
Homer enjoyed a loving relationship with his three stepchildren, Edwin (Cheryl) Bagley of Greensboro, North Carolina, Annelle Bagley Reed of Tuscaloosa, Alabama and James (Faye) Bagley of Montgomery, Alabama and their families.
Visitation and Funeral Services will be held at Leak Memory Chapel in Montgomery, Alabama. The visitation will take place on Saturday, February 10, 2024, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, followed by a Funeral Service at 11:00 am in the Chapel with the Reverend Richard Hanna officiating. Interment immediately following at Greenwood Cemetery in Montgomery, Alabama.
