

Joel Thomas “Tommy” Ward, age 80, passed away on Tuesday, December 1, 2020. After months of failing health, he died peacefully in his home in Montgomery with his beloved wife, Jayne, by his side. Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 6, 2020 at 1:00pm at Leak Memory Chapel with a service at 2:00pm. Social distancing and masks are required. Burial will follow at Alabama Heritage Cemetery.
Tommy was born April 15, 1940 to Ira Vernon Ward and Mabel Moore Ward. As a boy he had a proud beginning on Old Selma Road. As a young man he strived for a brighter future which he achieved through years of hard work and perseverance. He worked his way from Manager of Montgomery Ready Mix to President of Buckeye Trucking and later and proudest of all President of Tom Ward Builders. Throughout his career he earned many Local, State, and National Awards through the Homebuilders Association and Concrete Association, most notably National Homebuilder Member of the Year and induction into the National Homebuilder Association Hall of Fame.
In June 1973, he met the woman of his dreams, Jayne Ward, and in November of the same year they were married. The two of them raised Thomas Hayden Ward Sr. in Montgomery and lived happily together in God’s light for 47 years. He was an incredible husband, father, brother, grandfather and many other things to many other people.
He is survived by his incredible wife of 47 years, Jayne Ward; his son, Thomas Hayden Ward Sr, his beloved daughter in law, Dee Dee Ward; and his grandson, Thomas Hayden Ward Jr.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Montgomery, 1111 Holloway Ct., Montgomery, AL, 36117.
