

John W. Cox was born on July 24, 1935, to Reuben and Lura Cox in Montgomery, Ala., and passed away January 25, 2025. John was a loving husband and father. He attended and graduated from Auburn (API) in 1959. After college, he joined the Air National Guard and worked as a crew chief for 10 years. He also worked at Union Bank for 38 years in the data processing department. While he worked there, he met the love of his life, Janice, and was married to her for 37 years. He was an avid Auburn football fan and attended nearly every home game between 1960 and 2020. He loved traveling, and he visited all 50 states and more than 30 countries. He is proceeded in death by his parents, Reuben and Lura Cox, and his sister, Carolyn Singleton. He is survived by his wife, Janice Cox; his children, Kenneth Cox (Ginny) and Rachel Capshaw (Benno). He is also survived by his grandchildren Lura Cox, Troy Carter and Melissa Knoll.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, February 8 at 1 p.m. at University Church of Christ in Montgomery in the fireplace room. A celebration of life service will follow at 2 p.m. in the church’s fellowship hall.
