John Michael Jenkins IV

John Michael Jenkins IV was born in Montgomery AL in 1942 to Carolyn Cooper and John Michael Jenkins III. He was the beloved step-son of William Micou Jordan. Mike died in Montgomery, AL on March 27, 2021. Preceded in death by his parents, he is survived by his wife Kent Callaway Jenkins and his children Carolyn Jenkins Dennard of Savannah, GA, Mike Jenkins of Montgomery, Kent Noltes of St. Simons, GA, and Peyton Thompson (Tommy) of Savannah, GA.

Mike was the loving grandfather of Cooper and Rivers Hall, Wynn and Bluford Dennard, Anne Mallory and Hayes Jenkins, Nicholas, Margo and Emmie Noltes, and Thomas and Rogan Thompson. He is also survived by his sisters Jane Barganier of Montgomery and Carolyn Branch of Atlanta and his brother Bill Jordan of Healdsburg CA, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

A graduate of Washington and Lee University, Mike then served two years in Korea as a Second Lt. in the US Army and returned to Montgomery to build up the family Jenkins Brick Company. He was inducted into the Alabama Academy of Honor for his achievements in the industry.

Mike was a “man among men” and his survivors, his many friends, business associates and the Montgomery Community will long remember his legacy. As a lifelong resident of Alabama, Mike worked to make our city and state a better place by co-founding both Leadership Montgomery and Leadership Alabama in an effort to bring potential and active leaders of both races together to work for a better future. His commitment was recognized by his receiving the “Martin Luther King Award” presented to him personally by Coretta Scott King.

He also chaired a successful United Way Campaign; served as Chairman of the Board of Montgomery Academy and was Chapter Chairman of the Southeast Young Presidents Organization.

A Memorial service will be held at St. John’s Episcopal Church on Tuesday, March 30th at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. John Leach officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Mike’s YPO Forum and the members of the “Montgomery Thirteen” (both groups close to his heart), Frank Johnston, Jim Marshall and Bob Young.
