"John" Eutace Durrell Johnson

"John" Eutace Durrell Johnson, age 92, of Montgomery, Alabama passed away on Sunday, September 14, 2025. Eutace was born in Deatsville, AL to Miriam Gwendolyn Johnson Crumpton and Lewey Johnson and around 1945 moved to the Montgomery area. Serving in the U. S. Air Force, he earned several medals including Good Conduct Medal, Korean Service Medal, National Defense Medal, and United Nations Medal. John worked as an electrician for 60 years, but he also made time for his church, Montgomery Tabernacle and later Church of the Highlands. A Moose Lodge Officer and president of the Highland Gardens Men's Club, he delighted in watching his girls play softball, fishing and later grandchildren's sporting events. John was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 55 years Phyllis Johnson; his father Lewey Johnson and his mother Miriam Gwendolyn Johnson Crumpton.

John is survived by his daughter Bonnie J. Hicks (David Hicks); his daughter Cathy J. Wilson; and his daughter Sandy J. Meriwether (Dr. Mark Meriwether); his grandchild Chad Hicks, his grandchild Toni Grant (Terry Grant), his grandchild Noel Scott (Wilson Scott), his grandchild Hayley Cleckler (Jerry Cleckler), his grandchild McKenna Jones (Clint Jones), his grandchild Sam Meriwether (Sarah Meriwether), his grandchild Slade Meriwether (Erica Meriwether), his great grandchild Michael Grant (Charae Holleman), his great grandchild Gracie Grant, his great grandchild Matthew Grant, his great grandchild Ryleigh Cleckler, his great grandchild Brayden Hicks, his great grandchild Charlie Hicks, his great grandchild John-David Scott, his great grandchild Laney Cleckler, his great grandchild Walker Scott, his great grandchild Loxley Jones, his great grandchild Colt Scott, his great grandchild Cooper Jones, his great grandchild Chuyler Meriwether, his great grandchild Axel Meriwether, his great grandchild Ellis Meriwether, his great great grandson Micah Grant and his expected great great grandson Charlie Grant.

A friends and family visitation for John will be held Saturday, September 20, 2025 at 10:00 AM at Leak Memory Chapel, 945 Lincoln Rd, Montgomery, Alabama 36109, followed by a celebration of life chapel service at 11:00 AM. A graveside will follow in Greenwood Cemetery with Wilson Scott officiating all services.

Serving as pallbearers are Wilson Scott, Chad Hicks, Clint Jones, John-David Scott, Walker Scott, Sam Meriwether, Slade Meriwether, Matthew Grant; honorary pallbearers Jerry Cleckler, Terry Grant and Brent Cox.

The family would like to extend a special "Thank You" to Aveanna Hospice and Visiting Angels for their care and compassion in Grandpa John's last days.
