

Rogers, John Abbott, Jr. – MSgt. Ret. USAF – was born in Greenville, Alabama to John Abbott Rogers and Everett Rogers on August 8, 1935. After he graduated from Greenville High School in May 1953, he joined the USMC, soon to switch to the USAF. He served tours in Japan, Labrador and Viet Nam along with a number of sites stateside. He retired from the AF while pursuing his degree at AUM and continued his education while working with the Montgomery Police Department. After receiving his degree in Personnel Management, he worked a number of plants and factories in the River Region and neighboring counties. He also earned his Real Estate License and worked in Real Estate Sales. He served as the Lay Leader at Heatherton Heights Methodist Church and at Perry Hill Road Methodist Church. He loved to sing in the choir and cook Wednesday night suppers until his health slowed him down. He also served as a Past Master in his lodge and director of the Gunter Teen Town in the late 1960s.
John is survived by his wife of 59 ½ years, Anne Inez Crews Rogers; 4 children: Judith Anne Rogers Harris (Bob), John Abbott Rogers III (Lisa), George Norman Rogers (Kathi), and David Robison Rogers (Sara); 9 Grandchildren, 2 Step Grandchildren, 6 Great Grandchildren, 3 Step Great Grandchildren; 2 Sisters: Mary Frances Jones (Charles) and Kathy Redding (Ted) and 3 brothers: James E Rogers (Heidi), Chris Rogers and Cato Rogers (Ginger). Pall Bearers are grandsons: Brian Harris, Ryan Rogers, David (DJ) Rogers Jr, Sam Rogers and grandson-in-law Phillip Whatley and step grandson Trey Godbold. Visitation and viewing will be 1 hour prior to the 2:00 service at Perry Hill Road Methodist Church Saturday, September 14 with the Rev Earl Crutchfield and Rev Mark Osgood leading. Graveside service with full military honors will follow upon arrival at the Magnolia Cemetery in Greenville, Alabama.
