To Mrs. Tatum and the Tatum Family, we would like to take this opportunity to extend our most sincere condolences for the loss of one of the Greatest men that I have ever known. Coach Tatum was a gentleman whom I  developed an unspeakable amount of love and respect for, since my first  meeting him in 1975. Mrs. Tatum, I thank you for allowing me and my family to come by and spend some quality time with Coach Tatum several months prior to his death, and I will cherish his memories forever. It is my prayer that God will continue to Guide and Keep you; as well as, give you Peace. To Mrs.  Tatum and family. My name is Monique Cunningham-Thomas. I attended. Walker High School c/o 1980. I recently found out of the loss of a wonderful man Coach Tatum. I was a cheerleader for the football players. Coach Tatum and Coach Venable treated us like family. It was always fun to be in his presence. I looked up to him with respect and love. To Mrs. Tatum and the Tatum Family thank you for sharing Coach John Tatum with the Walker High School Community during the early 80's. During my senior year before our first game Coach Tatum asked me to lead the team in a prayer during our breakfast kickoff prior to our first game.  I was not a regular church goer and I froze when I could not remember how to say grace to bless the food. So I said the only other prayer I knew and that was the Lord's Prayer that coach Tatum encouraged his players to  memorize.  Teammates made fun of me but Coach Tatum smiled and said it was the right prayer at the right time . What a man, what a coach. Your family is in our prayers.

Rest in Peace Coach Tatum, He was my favorite high school coach at Walker High in Alt.

The coaching fraternity in heaven has gained one of our best, to be able to love someone and at the same time give them discipline in athletics  and the classroom is a gift from GOD, John did this every day.

I grew up with "Johnny"  Tatum in Highland Gardens and from the first day I met him I knew he was one of the finest men I have had the pleasure to have know. We went all through school together and even though our paths went in separate ways I always knew he was something special. I will miss seeing him at Chappy's on Saturday where he never failed to come over and speak to me, that's the kind of man he was. I will miss John and  thankful I had the privilege to have known him for about 60 years.

I'm so very sorry for your loss. John was very kind to me when I arrived at MA, and assured me that if I ever had trouble with one of his athletes, I only needed to let him know. The first time that happened, the young man was in front of my desk at 7:30 the next morning, apologizing profusely, no doubt having had his character flaws pointed out to him in excruciating detail by Coach Tatum. He was a good friend, and we will miss him. We are thinking of you.

I am so sorry for your loss. I know how difficult the loss of a loved one can be. I pray that you take comfort in your friends and family and that God gives you the strength needed to get through this difficult time. God invites us to draw close him in James chapter 4 verse 8.

Sadden by the passing of John.  Fond memories of him being apart of my life growing up at Eastern Hills. Recently renewed our connection, when my wife and I moved down the street.  Wonderful Man, he will be greatly missed.
