Josephine “Jo” Girard Hawkins Moody was called to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, August 15th, 2023 surrounded by her loving family. She was born on October 7th, 1935 to Lois Rena Hawkins and Boaz B. Hawkins of Montgomery, Alabama. Josephine attended primary school in Montgomery, Alabama. She was a graduate of Margaret Booth School for Girls in 1953 where she was a part of the library staff, as well as editor, of the newspaper. Beautiful inside and out, Josephine was voted most beautiful, prettiest eyes, and best sport. During her teenage years, she also met the love of her life and future husband, Jack E. Moody. Upon graduation from high school, she moved to New Orleans to attend nursing school where she cultivated lifelong friendships. Josephine and Jack became soul mates and were married on April 11, 1955, and together had five beloved children. She served her community as a nurse at Jackson Hospital for many years. She attended church all her life. Josephine had a kind heart and anyone who met her felt at peace in her presence. As she aged and her family grew, everyone she met came to know her as “JoMama.” She was gracious with her home and hosted many friends and family along with her traditions of southern cooking shared through the generations. Above all, she lived her life to honor Jesus and shared the love of Christ everywhere she went. Her love for her family was unmatched and she will be greatly missed by so many until we join her in eternity.
Josephine was preceded in death by her beloved husband Jack, her mother Lois Hawkins and father Boaz Hawkins, and her sisters Carleen Guthrie and Cheryl Rogers. Josephine is survived by her loving sister, Jennifer Zurita of California, and 5 children: Angela (Glenn) Rowe of Montgomery, Jack “Buddy” (Terri) Moody of Montgomery, Susan (Bob) Alred of Montgomery, Edward Moody of Montgomery, and Joseph Moody of Dacula, Georgia.
