

Knox Argo, a resident of Montgomery, AL, passed away March 20, 2026. He was born June 3, 1940 in Birmingham, AL to Robert Knox Argo and Leone Aurelia Thompson.He is predeceased by his parents and an infant daughter, Leslie Marie.
Knox was a graduate of West End High School in Birmingham, and earned a BS degree in Chemistry from Auburn University. After serving four years as an officer in the United States Air Force, he earned a law degree from The University of Alabama.
Knox generously supported many civic causes and children’s charities. These include YMCA Camp Chandler in Wetumpka and Children’s Harbor, an organization that provides a variety of resources to families with children who are living with life-altering medical diagnoses.
Knox was an ardent Auburn supporter with season tickets to football and basketball games. He would attend all football post season bowl games and basketball tournaments—including the trip to The Final Four. Knox enjoyed travel shared with family; many trips spanning the entire country from New York to the Pacific Northwest. He visited Australia, New Zealand, and Fiji, and several trips to small islands in the Caribbean.
Knox enjoyed quiet weekend refuge at his beautiful house on Lake Martin. He was always happiest when generously hosting many friends and family at the Lake.
Knox was a faithful member of the Frazer Church, often seen as a greeter on Sunday morning or serving in the children’s nursery. When he was not present at Sunday services at Frazer he would be at Church in the Pines on Lake Martin.
He is survived by his wife, Sherry Cox Dyess Argo; his children, Shelley Gipson (Phil) and Jay Argo (Anne); his stepson, Brad Dyess; his sister, Joan Gray of Bastrop, LA; and his grandchildren, Phillip Gipson (Melissa), Christine Gipson, Joshua Gipson, Kyle Argo, and Stella Argo and one great grandson.
The family expresses great gratitude to the caregivers, Margie and Tyler, from Dwell@Home for their comfort and compassion.

Visitation is Friday, March 27, 1:00 pm. and a Celebration of Life Service is Friday, March 27, 2:00 pm., both at Leak Memory Chapel. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
