Margie was born to James Phil Church and Ada Erle Penton Church, both of whom preceded her in death. She moved from Titus to Montgomery early in her life, where she grew up and later dedicated herself to her family as a homemaker. Margie delighted in taking care of her family and, alongside her husband of 55 years, Claude Cozart, ran a produce stand. Despite the personal tragedies she faced, including the loss of her husband, daughter Christie Lynn Smith, and son David Wood, Margie remained resilient, often saying, "God saw me through it."
Her personal interests included Alabama football and cooking for her family, and she was a devoted member of the Hope Hull Church of Christ. Margie was also known for having undergone the first open-heart surgery in the state of Alabama, a testament to her strength and resilience.
Margie's legacy is carried on by her grandchildren Heather Wood, Zachary Smith, Emily Smith, and Tyler Smith. She is survived by her brother James Church and sisters Kathy Risgins, Mary Ann Ingram, Linda Nixson, and Rita Church. Her sister Ruth Mills also preceded her in death.
