

Melba Jill Johnson, 69, of Montgomery, Alabama, passed away on April 4, 2026, due to heart complications. Born on April 28, 1956, in Montgomery, Jill lived a life defined by faith, kindness, and a deep love for her family and community.
Jill graduated from Auburn University at Montgomery with degrees in Special Education and Early Childhood Education. She devoted more than 25 years to teaching, including the last 18 years as a beloved kindergarten teacher at Alabama Christian Academy. Teaching was not just her profession; it was her calling. She poured her heart into every classroom, every lesson, and every child who walked through her door.
A lifelong and active member of the Dalraida Church of Christ, Jill joyfully served in many roles, including teaching numerous Bible classes. One of her greatest passions was the Teddy Bear Ministry, where she lovingly sewed teddy bears for sick children in Montgomery-area hospitals. Her hands were always busy creating comfort for others.
Jill was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Melba Jackson of Montgomery. She is survived by her devoted husband of 47 years, Bill Johnson; her son, Hunter Johnson (Ashley) of Georgia; and her cherished grandchildren, Grady and Hattie Johnson, who were the light of her life. She also leaves behind her brothers, Buddy (Janna) and Greg Jackson, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
Those who knew Jill remember her radiant smile, her gentle kindness, her unwavering support, and her joyful laugh. She was known for her steadfast commitment to Christ, her deep care for her family, her delicious cookies, and the warmth of her friendship. She loved to travel and especially treasured hosting “GigiGramps Camp,” creating unforgettable memories with her grandchildren.
Jill was a devoted wife, a loving mother, and a proud grandmother. Her legacy of compassion, service, and faith will continue to bless all who were touched by her life.

Celebration of Life will be a the Dalraida Church Of Christ on Thursday April 9, 2026, at 11:00am, followed by a graveside service and burial at Greenwood Cemetery in Montgomery, Alabama.
