Mildred Lewis Cook, age 105 passed away on Wednesday, March 12, 2025. Born in Sweetwater, Alabama to Norman Allen Lewis and Lydia Ford Lewis where she grew into adulthood. She moved to Montgomery in 1966 where she taught school after graduating from Alabama Women's College (currently, University of Montevallo). An active member of Frazer Church, she was a part of the Speeders choir. Mildred enjoyed playing the piano and traveling and will be remembered for her contagious smile and winsome personality.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband of 48 yrs., W. Floyd Cook; her siblings, Allen Lewis, Ford Lewis, Rentz Lewis and Lorena Bragan. Mildred is survived by her sister, Joyce Kerby. She also leaves behind her children, Bill (Marsha) Cook, Lydia (Jim) Benefield, Ann (Allen) Edwards; her grandchildren, Lewis T. (Cindy) Benefield, Willis O. (Jill) Benefield, Ellenann B. (Von) Yelverton, Tait E. (Lance) Lachney, Boyd Edwards, Anna C. ((Graves) McKee, Reynolds (Sarah) Cook; her great grandchildren, Emily Rose Benefield, John Allen Lachney, Mac Benefield, Lewis Benefield, Ellis McKee, Hayes Lachney, Marie Yelverton, Lucy McKee, Sophie Yelverton, Daniel Edwards, Hugh Benefield, Bragg Benefield, Marshall Cook, and Millie Mckee to cherish her memory.
The family is grateful to the Staff of Oak Grove Assisted Living for being like Mildred's family for the past 14 years. Special thanks to the wonderful Care Givers from Jennings Professional Service for their loving attention to her needs at end of her life.
A family and friends visitation for Mildred will be held Saturday, March 22, 2025 from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM at Frazer Methodist Church, 6000 Atlanta Highway, Montgomery, Alabama 36117, followed by a celebration of life memorial service at 11:00 AM. Services will end with a family and friends graveside at Cook Cemetery at 3:00 pm. See website for directions.
