Miriam Mathers Best

Miriam Mathers Best, age 90, of Montgomery, Alabama passed away on Wednesday, January 4, 2023. Miriam was born on August 22,1932 in Mississippi City, Mississippi to Earl A. Mathers and Bardee Roberts Mathers. A family and friends visitation for Miriam will be held Tuesday, January 10, 2023 at 10:00 AM at Eastern Hills Baptist Church, 3604 Pleasant Ridge Rd, Montgomery, Alabama 36109, followed by a Celebration of Life funeral service at 11:00 AM with services concluding with a burial at Greenwood Cemetery.

She is survived by her four daughters, Patricia (Steve)Ward, Kathy (Eddie) Eckermann, Darla (Steve) Perry and Angela (Robert) Simmons; as well as a multitude of grandchildren and great grandchildren. "Mee Maw" dearly loved her eight grandchildren, Jeremy Enfinger, Aaron (Ezray) Eckermann, Adam (Coryn) Enfinger, Leah (Thomas) Kilzer, Cole (Emily) Pinkston, Bailee (Josh) Wilson, Alex Simmons, and Anna Kate Simmons.

Miriam is preceded in death by her husband, Dewey Elkanah Best and her sisters, Katherine, Yvonne and Lucy. Miriam worked for many years as bookkeeper for Algernon Blair Construction company until retiring to stay home. She loved her early morning routine of reading her Bible and prayer. She enjoyed working crossword puzzles, quilting, baking and serving others. She was also a faithful fan of Alabama football.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to all of the caregivers during her journey. A special thanks to all of the wonderful nurses and caregivers on West Hall at John Knox Manor as well as all of the staff in the Therapy Department.

Active pallbearers will be Jeremy Enfinger, Aaron Eckermann, Adam Enfinger, Cole Pinkston, Alex Simmons, Josh Wilson and Thomas Kilzer.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Miriam's memory may be made to Eastern Hills Baptist Church, 3604 Pleasant Ridge Road, Montgomery, AL 36109.
