

RUNKEL, Myra Ann (Russell), 81 years old, a longtime resident of Montgomery, Alabama, went home to the Lord on January 19, 2024, after a lengthy illness. She was preceded in death by her parents, Elbert E. Russell and Frances S. Russell and her sister, Linda (Russell) Reaves. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Paul Arthur Runkel; her daughter, Angela Dawn (Runkel) Combs; and her brother, Elbert Eugene Russell, Jr. Family includes her son-in-law, James Lawrence Combs; 2 grandsons, Matthew E. Combs and Lawrence J. Combs; 4 nieces, and numerous cousins. Myra was born in Montgomery, Alabama, in 1943. She was a graduate of Robert E. Lee High School. She was a member and served in several churches, the most recent one being Calvary Baptist Church. Myra enjoyed travelling, reading, and drawing; she was also an avid cat lover and fan of the University of Alabama football team. She had created several works of Japanese embroidery while living in Misawa, Japan, with Paul and Angela during Paul’s Air Force deployment. She was a wonderful, patient wife, mother, and grandmother. Her sweet smile, her encouraging words, and her acceptance of others will be missed.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Leak Memory Chapel Funeral Home in the main chapel on Friday, January 26, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. CST. Pastor Jed Carnes will be officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery adjacent to the chapel. Visitation will be held at Leak Memory Chapel Funeral Home on Friday, January 26, 2024, from 1:00-2:00 p.m.
