Nancy Lee McMurtrey

Nancy Lee McMurtrey, age 80, of Montgomery, Alabama passed away on Thursday, May 4, 2023. A lifelong Alabamian, she was born to Rufus Spear and Dorothy Mae Faulk Spear. Nancy was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, James Rufus Spear. She is survived by her husband of 63 1/2 years, Fred William McMurtrey; her children, Fred William (Lynn Heartsill) McMurtrey Jr. and Laura Anne McMurtrey (Jeffery William) Rogers; her grandchildren, Whitney Rose McMurtrey (Matthew Robert) Whitacre, Laura Katherine Rogers, and Jessica Renee Rogers; her great grandchildren, Georgia May Rose Whitacre and Verity Temperance Joy Whitacre; and her sister, Carol Lynn Spear (John Ashley) Fulghum; as well as several nieces and nephews.

A resident of Montgomery, she was known as a homemaker and floral designer. A member of Beacon of Hope and later Available Worship church, she was a part of the decorating committee, VBS team and active in helping with church catering events and receptions. Nancy enjoyed decorating her home, crocheting and creating floral arrangements, ladies' bible studies and choir. She will be missed by all who knew her, but especially her family.

A family and friends visitation for Nancy will be held Tuesday, May 9, 2023 at 1:00 PM at Leak Memory Chapel, 945 Lincoln Rd, Montgomery, Alabama 36109. A celebration of life graveside service at 2:00 PM will follow at Greenwood Serenity Memorial Gardens, 909 Lincoln Rd, Montgomery, Alabama 36109.
