Robert Earl Barnes of Montgomery, AL passed away on August 10, 2025, at the age of 91. Robert graduated from Belmont University, where he was their first all-American basketball player and later his Jersey was retired. He was truly a sports enthusiast. On Fall Saturdays, you could always hear him cheering for the Alabama Crimson Tide but also flipping channels to check on other SEC teams.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Archie Mae and Vera M. Barnes; brother, John W. Barnes; First wife, Joan; daughter, Julie Barnes; grandson, Christopher Scott and granddaughter, Samantha Joan. He is survived by his wife, Robbie; sons; Robert E Barnes, Jr. "REB" and Paul, daughters: JoEllen Kelly (Randy), Pamela E. Manun, Peggy Thompson Baker (Randy), and seven grandchildren.
There will be a celebration of life at Eastern Hills Baptist Church on Friday, July 15th at 12:00 PM with a visitation one hour prior to the service. A private graveside will follow.
