Faithful husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend passed away on September 23, 2019, after an illness. He is preceded in death by his parents, Arthur "Buddy" and Marie McBryde Melton and his sister Mary Arthur Melton Ott. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Helen Kelley Melton, his son Robert E. Melton Jr. (Christie), daughter Kelley Melton Hill (Adam), grandsons: Michael Melton (Bethanne), Eric Melton and James Hill, sister-in-law Barbara Grimes, brother-in-law Melburn Ott, nephews: Glenn McGaughey (Sandy)and Wade Fleming, nieces: Patricia Wright (Christopher), and Greta Chambliss (Roger) along with great-nieces and nephews.
Mr. Melton graduated from Auburn University with a Bachelors Degree in Pharmacy and went on to earn a Master's Degree in Public Administration from AUM. He served in The USAF as a 1st Lt. for four years. He worked at several pharmacies in Montgomery and retired from Alabama's Department of Public Health after 25 years. After his retirement, he volunteered with SHIP assisting people with Medicare.
He was an avid reader and bridge player. He enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing and Auburn football. He taught Sunday School at Heritage Baptist Church and later at Eastern Hills Baptist Church. He also served as a deacon at both churches.
A visitation will be held at Leak Memory Chapel on Friday, September 27, 2019, at 9:30 am. A Celebration of Life is set for 11:00 am.
