Ruby Marie Nicholson

Ruby Marie Long Nicholson, 89, a resident of Montgomery, AL died Thursday, January 5, 2023 at her residence. Funeral services will be Friday, January 13, 2023 at 1:00 pm at Leak Memory Chapel with Reverend Tom Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to services from 12:00 pm until 1:00 pm at Leak Memory Chapel. Mrs. Nicholson was the last surviving member of her family and was preceded in death by her parents George Rush Long and Ruby Marie Smalley Long and all her siblings. She is survived by her husband of 70 years Wayne Nicholson, Senior Master Sergeant RET., Air Force, her children Georgia Shearon and husband Bob, David Nicholson and partner Brigitte Lewkowicz, Melinda Allen, Liz Nicholson and James Nicholson, grandchildren Jenifer Parris and husband Bryan, 9 children, and 2 grandchildren; Josh Shearon, Jamie Shearon Boyce and 3 children, Kelly Nicholson, Sara Nicholson Crews and 1 child, Kate Lewkowicz, Greg Beidleman and wife Erin, 2 children, and 1 grandchild, Naomi Aitken, Maddie Allen, Jacob Henry, and Noah Blaylock, and many loving nieces, nephews and other family members. Serving as pallbearers will be Greg Beidleman, Noah Blaylock, Benji McAvoy, Kenneth Nicholson, Mike Nicholson and Bryan Parris. Mrs. Nicholson was a member of Ridgecrest Baptist since 1963. She dedicated herself to many different churches in the Montgomery and Prattville area serving as a Mother's Day Out and Daycare Provider. Her family said she had a great love for babies and loved caring for them and rocking them. She and her husband were also huge square dancers with quite an accomplished career. Mr. Nicholson spent 76 years teaching Square Dancing, 72 of those years where dancing with her. They started the Prattville Promenaders in 1965 and Mr. Nicholson was inducted to the Alabama Square Dancer Callers Association Hall of Fame, which he stated would not have happened without her.
