

Sandy was born in Waco, Texas to Constance Dalziel and Aquilla Ballard Hughes, Jr. She attended Robert E. Lee High School and graduated from the University of Alabama in 1964, where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority.
Sandy was an accomplished equestrian, winning many awards in Germany and the United States. She was a member of the Montgomery Junior League and an active member of St. John’s Episcopal Church.
Sandy was an avid reader and loved learning, taking a special interest in computer technology. Combining her love of travel and physical fitness, she celebrated turning 50 by running the New York City Marathon. She was a member of the same supper club for over 55 years which was made up of dear friends. Sandy was, above all, devoted to her husband, children, and grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Constance and Aquilla Ballard Hughes, Jr.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Ralph Stanley Marks, her sons Stan, Jr., and Rick (Emily), grandsons William and Hays Marks, brothers Mike (Carrie) Hughes, Chris (Clare) Hughes, and Steve (Mary) Hughes, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Memorial donations may be made to the Montgomery Humane Society or St. John’s Episcopal Church in Montgomery. Visitation will begin at 10 am, followed by a memorial service at 11 am, both at St. John’s Episcopal Church on Friday, September 9, 2022.
