Thomas Sansom Jr., a beloved and generous soul, passed away on January 7, 2026, at the age of 87. Born on March 15, 1938, in Fleta, Alabama, Thomas was known for his hard-working and honest nature. He spent his early years moving from Fleta to Wetumpka, where he became a cherished member of the community.
Thomas dedicated 69 years to his career as a tire salesman, during which he was a 2nd multi-year recipient of the Presidential Award from McGriff Tire. His commitment to his work was admired by many.
A devoted family man, Thomas loved his family, especially his grandchildren. He was married to his beloved wife, Helen Sansom, for 68 wonderful years. He is survived by his sons, Randy Sansom (Anna Sansom) and Bruce Sansom (Francie Sansom); his grandchildren, Chase Passmore (Sarah), John Blake Sansom (Kate), Patrick Sansom (Zay), Matthew Sansom, and Joseph Sansom; and his great-grandchild, Landon Passmore. He is also survived by his brother, Mickey Sansom, and his sister, Juanita Sansom Sullivan. He was predeceased by his father, Thomas Sansom Sr., his mother, Mary Claire Brady Sansom, his brother, Bunny Sansom, and his sister, Eleanor Sansom Tillery.
Thomas was a passionate cattleman and farmer, and he also enjoyed bull riding and Auburn Football. He was an active member of the Mulder Methodist Church and the Masons: Fleta Lodge, contributing to his community with dedication and service.
A visitation for family and friends will be held at Leak Memory Chapel, located at 945 Lincoln Rd, Montgomery, Alabama, on January 11, 2026, from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm. A Celebration of Life Chapel Service will take place at the same venue on January 12, 2026, at 11:00 am, concluding with a burial at Bethlehem Cemetery in Lapine, Alabama.
Active pallbearers will include Chase Passmore, John Blake Sansom, Patrick Sansom, Matthew Sansom, Joseph Sansom, Will Desmarais, and Wade Desmarais. Honorary pallbearers will be the employees of McGriff Tire. The Sansom family also wanted to express their deep appreciation for the kindness and care shown by the nurses at the CVICU unit of Baptist South during their time of need.
Thomas Sansom Jr. will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his legacy of love, generosity, and hard work will continue to inspire those he leaves behind.
