

Billy was born on August 6, 1934, in Tampa, Florida, to Henry and Mildred Mooneyham of Andalusia, Alabama.
Billy graduated in 1954 from Andalusia High School, where he played football and baseball and fell in love with his future wife of 60 years, Sarah Elmore Booth. Billy married his high school sweetheart in 1957. They had a happy and fulfilling life together for the next six decades and were active members of their church well into their eighties. Billy is predeceased by his beloved wife.
In 1957, Billy graduated from the University of Alabama with a Bachelor’s degree in commerce. He was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity, the Cadet Officer’s Club, the Arnold Air Society, the Circle K Club, and Alpha Kappa Psi. In 1960, he earned his Doctorate of Jurisprudence from the University of Alabama law school. He enjoyed a successful law practice in Montgomery.
Billy is survived by his four children, William S. “Bill” Mooneyham II, Weenona Mooneyham Brannan (Eddie), Sarah Chrystene Kelley (Matt), and Charles Howard Mooneyham (Amy); grandchildren Susan Schassler Hayes (Tyler), Billy Schassler (Kristen), Kaitlin Schassler Kessel (Josh), Tom Mooneyham, Katherine Kelley and Aven Kelley; great grandchildren Faith Hayes, McKinley Kessel, Liam Schassler, Maddox Schassler, Remington Kessel, and Annalivia Hayes; his cousin Joyce Scales; and nieces and nephews.
Serving as pallbearers will be Charles Mooneyham, Matt Kelley, Eddie Brannon, Tom Mooneyham, Tyler Hayes and Bucky Fiddler. Honorary pallbearer will be Liam Schassler.
Visitation will be at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, May 3, at Leak Memory Chapel in Montgomery. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. at Leak Memory Chapel, with burial at Greenwood Serenity Memorial Gardens.
