Wilma Jewell Jernigan McNeill

Wilma Jewell Jernigan McNeill, age 96, of Montgomery, Alabama passed away on Sunday, February 4 2018 at John Knox Manor Nursing Home in Montgomery, Alabama. She was born in Montgomery, AIabama on June 28, 1921, but grew up in Brewton, Alabama. She graduated from T.R. Miller High School, Brewton, Alabama in 1939; graduated from Draughon Business College, Montgomery, Alabama in 1940; worked for the State of Alabama Bureau of Vital Statistics; was a Bookkeeper for Jones Brothers Oil Company; and volunteered as a Pink Lady at Baptist Hospital South, Montgomery, Alabama. She married Jesse McNeill, on June 14, 1942. Mrs. McNeill was a charter member of the Montgomery Community of Christ Church. She was a devoted wife, loving Mother and homemaker. The joys of her life were in the service of her Lord Jesus Christ, and in loving and caring for her home, family and friends. She enjoyed and excelled in creating exquisite French Heirloom Sewing for her children and grandchildren. She was an excellent cook and delighted her family and friends with her culinary gift, and loved caring for her rose garden. All this, and so much more, gave much joy and happiness during her lifetime.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Jesse McNeill, her parents Benjamin Leslie

Jernigan and Lula Jane Thompson Jernigan, two sisters, Freida A. Jernigan and Verla Jernigan Higgs. She is survived by her two children, Marilyn McNeill Johnson (Jim) of Foley, Alabama, Benjamin Jernigan McNeill Sr. (Jo) of Pine Level, Alabama. Four grandchildren: Lesleigh Shewmake Batchelor (Don) of Atlanta, Georgia, Laurie Shewmake Ingle (Rick) of Montgomery, Alabama, Jessica McNeill Azar (Zack IV) of Snowdoun, Alabama, Benjamin Jernigan McNeill Jr. (Bella) of Montgomery, Alabama. Seven great­ grandchildren: Derrick Shonk Jr. of Wetumpka, Alabama, Catherine Shonk of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Zack Azar V, Benjamin Azar, Mary Ellen Azar, Elizabeth Azar all of Snowdoun, Alabama, Charlie McNeill of Montgomery, Alabama. One Sister, Gloria Jernigan of Gulf Breeze, Florida, and one Sister-in-Law, Helen McNeill Russell of Rochester, Michigan.

Visitation will be held at Leak-Memory Chapel, 945 Lincoln Road, Montgomery, Alabama, 36109, 334-272-6501, from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Thursday, February 8,2018. Funeral services will be celebrated at the Community of Christ Church, 315 Bell Road, Montgomery, Alabama 36117 on Friday, February 9, 2018 at 10:00 A.M. with Evangelist Richard Dour and Evangelist Gary Howard officiating. Interment will follow at the Pine Level United Methodist Church Cemetery Pine Level, Alabama 36065 (For GPS directions to Pine Level Church, please use 685 Pine Level Loop, Mathews, Alabama 36069).
