It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Allen Clifford Moore, affectionately known as Cliff, who transitioned peacefully on November 1, 2024, at the age of 86. Cliff was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend.
Born in Barbados on July 15, 1938, he trained to become an electrician. He met his soon-to-be wife, Joyce (“Coxy”), and they later moved to England, where they were married. Eventually, they settled in Montreal, Canada, where they raised their children and shared over 60 years together.
Cliff became an integral part of the LaSalle community, making an outstanding contribution to local sports and youth development. He was one of the founding members of the LaSalle Hockey Association (A.H.L.) and the LaSalle Minor Baseball League (L.M.B.L.), organizations that played a significant role in shaping the lives of many young athletes in the area. His commitment to the community and to fostering sportsmanship and teamwork left an indelible mark on the city he loved. Cliff retired from Ville de Montréal Local 301 after many years of service. He was also a proud member of the Radio Amateurs of Canada (Cote St Luc Branch) where he was better known as VE2IFF.
Cliff was predeceased by his parents, Allan Gordon DaCosta Moore and Ethel Pearl Eunice Franklin, as well as his beloved son, Martin Moore; his loving brother, Ernest Moore; and his cherished sisters, Annie Ianthe Quintyne and Cheryl Walcott. He is survived by his loving wife, Joyce Patricia Cox, and his children, Lydia Moore and Derrick Moore (wife Sidney). Cliff’s memory will live on through his grandchildren: Lashaunda Yates, Elle Yates, Jonathan Moore, Jordan Moore, and Jasmine Moore.
Cliff is also survived by his devoted siblings: Halvin Moore (Canada), Carl Hall (United States), Coral Cummings (United States), Pearline Stoute (England), Ronald Walcott (England), Andre Marshall (England), Annette Roberts (England), and many nieces and nephews.
Cliff had a deep love of music that was central to his life. Whether he was playing instruments like guitar, piano, and steelpan or immersing himself in the lively rhythms of Calypso, Soca, music was always at the heart of his world. In 1967, Cliff helped form The Windys Band with friends Errol Johnson, Ashley Dennis, and Joseph Edward. The band frequently performed at the Colford Lodge, and in 1968, they had the notable honor of playing at Expo 67's Jamaican Pavilion, where they joined Johnny Nash in performing his hit song ''Hold me tight''.
Cliff’s wisdom and generosity of spirit touched all who knew him. He was a man of integrity who enjoyed sharing stories of his life and his deep love for his family. His passing leaves a great void in the lives of those who loved him, but his legacy will continue to inspire all who were blessed to have known him.
The viewing will take place at Collins Clarke MacGillivray Funeral Home, 5610 Sherbrooke West, H4A 1W5, on Friday, November 15, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
