On June 4, 2026, we said goodbye to Athelene "Cherrie" Bridgemohan, the peaceful heart and matriarch of our family. Born on January 9th 1935 in Falmouth, Jamaica to Goslyn and Vera Huie. Early in her life, her historic work as a talent acquisition recruiter for the Jamaican Ministry of Labour helped shape Canada’s growth by vetting skilled, degreed professionals under the 'Domestic Scheme'—a landmark initiative documented in historical books and by the Government of Canada that went on to produce well-known public figures and professionals who fueled Montreal's economic and community growth.
Following this impactful chapter, Athelene migrated from Jamaica to Montreal in 1959. There, she built a beautiful life that included her marriage to Michael Anthony Bridgemohan and a dedicated 30-year career as an accountant for the Canadian National Railway.
Proud of her Jamaican roots, Athelene instilled a deep sense of resilience in her family, urging us to always be articulate, independent, strong, and fearless. Her grandson, Ryan, deeply benefited from her wisdom and guidance, which profoundly shaped the man he has become today.
She is survived by her daughters, Judy Ann and Tina; her grandson, Ryan; her sister, Cecile Smith; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Goslyn and Vera Huie; her brother, Karl Mowatt; and her sister, Shirley Ann. We miss her beyond measure, comforted by the promise of Revelation 21:3-4 "..He will wipe out every tear from their eyes and death will be no more neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away"
