Bernice (Amma) Kinnon "lived a great life," as she recalled frequently. Her life was full of wonderful memories with family, friends, and colleagues. She was a graduate of Saskatoon's City Park Collegiate (senior pin) and the University of Saskatchewan. Her early days included working as a summer employee at Lake Louise, followed by a career as a skilled phlebotomist and lab technician in Montreal, working last at the Douglas Hospital. Bernice later embarked on a second career as a travel agent with Westmount Travel, a role highlighted by long-lasting friendships and years of traveling the continents.
At 82 years old, Bernice set out on her "last big adventure" and moved to Toronto. There, she met new friends at the Glebe Road United Church and Seniors Adult Services (SAS) in the Annex. She especially enjoyed the TIFF season. In 2020, she returned to Westmount and resided at Manoir Westmount, where she thoroughly enjoyed all they had to offer and truly called it home.
Deeply proud of her Icelandic roots, Bernice visited Iceland many times, introducing friends and family to its magnificence. Some of her favorite memories included her life in the Laurentians on Chemin de la Carriole, the Alpine Inn Golf Club, and the Ste. Marguerite Ski Club.
Her family takes comfort knowing she is now home, as she wished, to reunite with family and friends—and can finally enjoy those two glasses of wine. She is loved and deeply missed.
She is survived by her loving children: Julie (Graham Shaw), Brett (predeceased by Stephanie McCormick in 2017), and Heidi (Benjamin Benas). She was the cherished grandmother and great-grandmother of Kinnon Shaw (Devon Prangley, and children Jemma and Elliott), Kiefer Shaw (Mathieu Coates), and Emma Kinnon-Benas (Phil Blake, and children Chloe, Zia, Zaya, and Millie).
Service details will be announced at a later date.
