Dennis Hinds was a happy child who grew into a beautiful man. His inner beauty shined inside and out. He was a kind and gentle soul. Everyone who knew him loved him. Everyone who knew him respected him.
Athletics came naturally to Dennis. During his earlier years, his first passion was basketball. He played for his high school team for several years where he earned the nickname, “Flash”. He was quick on his feet. During his rise to fame in the basketball world he began to gain notoriety as a lady’s man. Like his father before him, he was a real handsome guy. He just had to shine his pearly whites and the girls came flocking. He continued to hone his skills on the court for Vanier College where a team of basketball scouts saw him play in Montreal. They offered him the golden opportunity to play for Ottawa University, which he could not resist. And so, shortly after graduating, he packed up and moved to Ottawa.
He spent several more years playing for Ottawa University. And, because his passion for basketball was so great, he devoted his summers to teaching others at a basketball camp. As time went on his love of sports led him to his next great passion- golf. He came to love the game of golf as much as basketball, and from what people say, he was pretty darned good at it. Every chance that they could, Dennis and his closest friends, affectionately known as “The Boys”, would travel to many cities with their golf clubs in tow. Their travels took them to such destinations as Portugal and Myrtle Beach where they rubbed elbows with the pros. Now that is dedication. I am sure that if Dennis had put his mind to it, he could have become the next Tiger Woods. He was that talented at all that he chose to do.
While attending Ottawa University, he worked conscientiously towards his degree in business management. To support himself he began his career in the restaurant industry, where he successfully worked his way up the ladder into a position of management for a few of the top pubs in Ottawa. And finally, in 2002, when the opportunity presented itself, he followed his ultimate dream and became the proud owner of the “Cock and Lion Ale House & Pub” in Ottawa. His charming personality and kind-hearted nature made him a very popular person. He was instantly liked by everyone he met. Everyone knew who he was and where to find him. And, over the many years he had made many loyal friends. His good nature had managed to touch a great many people.
Dennis’s greatest achievement came in the spring of 2003. On March 12th his son Tyson was born. On that day Dennis’s smile shone the brightest that anyone had ever seen. Tyson was Dennis’s pride and joy. Dennis loved him so very much. Through all of Tyson’s achievements there was no one more proud of his child or more dedicated to his well being than Dennis.
It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that we find ourselves documenting his life. Dennis, our beloved brother and friend to so many, will be greatly missed by us all. He will never be forgotten. God bless him and may he rest in peace.
