Denys Walcott was born on the Caribbean island of Barbados in the parish of St. Michael on April 13, 1928. After several years working as a Seaman in the Barbados Merchant Marines, he married Barbara Roach and emigrated to Canada in 1964 where he worked as a carpenter.
Denys was known for his unconventional sense of humor, and love of cricket, baseball, horse racing and ballroom dancing. He was also an exceptional amateur chef, specializing in traditional Bajan recipes, especially during the holiday season.
Denys was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years Barbara Roach. He is survived by his four children Anthony Walcott, David Walcott, Charmaine Walcott, Shelley Walcott Philippe and son-in-law Taylor Philippe. His life's legacy is extended to his five grandchildren, Chad Walcott, Karl Walcott, Daniel Walcott, Ashley Philippe, Noah Philippe and several nieces and nephews. A private family celebration of Denys’ life will take place in Montreal this summer.
